TOLINFX PROJECTS

TolinFX has been involved in many projects, from Film and TV to Theatre to Museum Work. This section of the website will continue to grow as we catalog all of the projects we've been a part of. For now, we are highlighting the two most recent and biggest projects we've been a part of.

IT CAME FROM YESTERDAY
Clear Conscience Productions

"It Came from Yesterday" was our first major collaboration in the full production of a feature film. Shot entirely on a green screen set in Pgh, PA, ICFY is a sci-fi action/adventure movie full of creature comedy. This high def feature has taken over two years to produce, with a little over a year of that being spent in post production. The film's producers, Jeff Waltrowski and Steve Tolin, have had to learn a half dozen new computer programs to acheive the visual fx content for the movie. Steve has learned the CG modeling program used to create all of the CG components for the movie, Maya, from the ground up. Having very little experience with computer modeling in the past, this was quite an endeavor. Jeff had to learn how to composite the images as well as how to incorperate the CG content Steve was building and additional Visual FX to bring the visuals of the film together. They have each spent 10-15 hours a day, at least six days a week for the past year to produce the visual elements needed for the film. Pre-production was no small effort either. TolinFX produced its first full creature suit for the movie, utilizing over a dozen artists to sculpt, fabricate, and animate the Bugman suit. It took them six months to R&D and fabricate the piece. It was worn and the all of the Bugman characters in the movie were performed by Chucky Hendershot. Chucky of course, was also one of the primary artists working on creating the Bugman suit. The crew was a fairly small one compared to today's standards, and allowed for a very close working relationship with all of the cast and crew that was involved. It was truly a blast shooting this movie and everyone involved seemed to enjoy themselves immensley and brought their most creative efforts to the project. We will be adding details about what a fantastic project this was to be a part of as well as a more thorough list of all of the amazing artists that came together to make it possible, but for now I'd like to say Thanks to all... you know who you are and that we could not have done this without your amazing efforts.

The Lt. of Inishmore
Pittsburgh, Albuquerque, Lima Peru, St. Louis, Boston, Berkeley, Chicago

Definitley the most notable theatre production that TolinFX has been a part ofBilled as a terrorist comedy, Martin McDonaugh's "The Lt. of Inishmore" is a complete bloodbath. Totally hillarious, the play uses the riduclous events surrounding the death of mad terrorist's beloved cat to illustrate the absurdity of wreckless vengence. Being very specialized in nature, especially within the theatre community, this show has only a handful of Special Effects shops that are attempting to execute the shows rigorous FX demands. Here's the short list; the show calls for two articulated dead cat props, an exploding cat, 4 people to be shot, and 3 bodies to dismember. This is of course done entirely in a live action production with the audience sitting feet away from the FX as they are executed. Not only that, but the FX must happen perfectly every show, every night. A tall order for any FX Artist. As a result of the very intense requirements of the show, Steve is in demand anywhere it might be being produced. For that reason, this show has taken Steve Tolin all over the country and even the world. TolinFX's first production of this show was in Pittsburgh, PA with the Pgh Irish and Classical Theatre. That was the show that set the ball in motion, and since then Seve has gone as far as Lima, Peru to help put this show on at Teatro La Plaza ISIL. He has done the show in Albuquerque, NM with the Cell Theatre, in St. Louis, MI with The St. Louis Repertory Theatre, in Boston, MA with The New Rep, and in Berkeley, CA with Berkeley Rep. The most recent production that Steve and TolinFX have been a part of was with Northlight Theatre in Chicago, IL. There the show was such a success and the auidience and theatre community there were so delighted by the show, that Chicago saw it fitting that Steve should win a Jeff Award for his work on it. The Jeff Award is Chicago's version of the famous Tony's in NY, and Steve award was for "Outstanding Acheivmentsin Special Effects" We will elablorate on this show and all of the amazing experiences it has brought to TolinFX as time allows, but in the meantime: Thank you Chicago and thank you Jeff Awards!
